Barack Obama’s recent speech on race in America invites Americans to try and be honest and respectful about their feelings on race relations in the US. This topic will be presented in two parts. The first (this one) will give a little context around the speech and start to delve into it a bit.
Part 2 will be for personal experiences and discussions.

Hey all, to keep spammers from… well… spamming, I’ve changed the configuration so that now you need to register if you want to post comments. Sorry about that, but I hope the people who read this blog will take the fifteen seconds to register. Of course, I’ll keep your info private and all that.
Thanks!

Okay, so I haven’t updated this as often as I had wanted to. I guess that’s an understatement. For the next couple weeks, though, I’m unemployed. I have a new gig lined up, but just in case you’re interested, here’s some fun reading material for you, after the jump.

When I was in college, I had a job working in an electronics store selling TVs. It rubbed off on me, because I ended up buying one of the TVs I sold the most: a 32″ Sony CRT HDTV. It was nice. My roommates and I all enjoyed it. But it was somewhere between 200 and 300 pounds. When I moved to San Francisco, I decided to leave it and go with, purely to be practical, a projector. Nice and portable!
Well, now I have to admit years later, I’m totally sold on projection, not just for the convenience factor, but also because, if you’re willing to invest a considerable amount of time and effort, projectors can become the centerpiece of a jaw-dropping home theater experience.

Or is that irony? At any rate, I’ve hidden a couple of my recent posts — not because anyone has asked me to, but because times are sensitive at my work, and my plans have changed somewhat because of those strange times.
I’ll probably not comment too much on that stuff while it’s happening. Better safe than sorry in cases like these.
Don’t worry, though, there’s plenty of other crap to write about in the meantime.
For instance, the Super Bowl. You’ve got the Patriots on one hand, and the Giants on the other. Turns out I’m originally from Wisconsin, so I’m a Green Bay fan, and we all know how well that worked out. And I’m sick of the Patriots. Hmm. That’s a tough one.

Politics?! In this blog?! Believe it! Of course, you can choose to ignore it, but just remember that it’s important.
So here’s a little bit of trivia about me: When I was in college, my major was not a typical engineering major like Computer Science. Instead, it was, believe it or not, Political Science. Throughout my childhood and into high school, I had always found politics to be fairly intriguing. So the plan was to take Political Science and go on to law school, like so many lawyers before me. Obviously, that career track didn’t quite turn out the way it was originally intended, but I’m not complaining about that!
The upshot to me caring so much about this particular topic is that I end up getting excited around election season. Primary season is especially interesting if you want to see the best and worst of politicians in action. My opinion, if you’re interested, after the jump.

I have for you all a tragic story that ends up being a little creepy and weird in addition to just being tragic and sad. It was reported by themorningcall.com.
Allentown police had suspected William Torres of dealing drugs in the city. But an undercover narcotics investigation yielded much more, and resulted in Torres, 21, being charged early Saturday with two counts of homicide.
Police said Torres, whose last known address was 436 Turner St., Allentown, gunned down two men at Fourth and Allen streets last month. According to court documents, Torres admitted killing the men.

Okay, I wish I could reveal this picture with a more upbeat article, but… well, it’s worth seeing anyway. The arrest photo of the suspect, after the jump:

Well, as you all can see, I went and got my own site and (at the moment) fairly generic blogging software.
If you don’t know who I am, well then sweet, my blog is popular! But just in case you don’t, I’ll give you a refresher. My name is Adam Buchen. I’m a Web developer. I worked at GameSpot from 2003 until April of 2007. Since then, I’ve been working at Yahoo!
